Jeff Day Joins Karlson/Gray
Karlson/Gray is pleased to announce that Whidbey Island sculptor and painter Jeff Day has joined the gallery.
Best known for his bronze busts of Jimi Hendrix and Martin Luther King, Jeff is now showing his evocative bronzes and paintings inspired by his time in Turkey.
New Shop Next Door
Woodworker Kim Hoelting has moved out of the shop next to the gallery, and the new tenants will be selling shirts with designs created by island artists, including our own Buffy Cribbs. The shop is to make a "soft" opening this summer and be fully open by fall.
Pat Goff
Many of you may be aware that Pat has retired from her job at Karlson/Gray. Pat was the most elegant thing ever on display at this gallery, and we will miss her.
Froggwell Gardens Show
As usual, several of our artists will be showing at the Froggwell invitational show this year, including Anne Belov, Buffy Cribbs, Bruce Morrow and Sue Taves. The show will be on August 2 and 3. Here is the official press release from Anne:
The Fifth Annual Froggwell Invitational Exhibition of Printmaking and Sculpture
Five years ago, I finally acted on the idea to hold a printmaking and sculpture show at Froggwell garden. For those who have not been there, Froggwell is magic. There is just no other way to put it, and when you combine sculpture scaled for an outdoor space, with a garden like Froggwell, you have an art experience that you don’t find in a gallery.
The artists included were those whose work I admired, or had some influence on my printmaking work. Included in the first show were artists from the island, as well as artists from Seattle and Oregon. Part of my mission is to promote hand pulled prints, which have been overshadowed in the last decade or so by reproductions. A hand pulled print is an original art form, which is produced as a multiple edition. Each print is inked and printed by hand by the artist or a skilled fine art printer. Most artists who become involved in printmaking become enamored of the processes, which in all printmaking’s forms, have many variables. Another advantage of prints is their affordability.
This year’s show includes printmakers Anne Belov, Buffy Cribbs, Gail Gwinn, Doug Hunt, Bruce Morrow, Briony Morrow-Cribbs, Teresa Saia, Kathryn Trigg, and Sandra Whiting. Returning for a second year are the hand made books of Dog Eared Books, created by Suzanne Schlicke and Christina Jallings. We are pleased to welcome sculptors Sue Taves and Sharon Spencer, and tile maker Carol Rose Dean who will be showing tiled garden furniture and tile murals.
I hope you have the opportunity to attend the show this year. The hours are 10 am till 5 pm on Saturday and Sunday August 2nd and 3rd. Froggwell Garden is located at 5508 Double Bluff Road in Freeland. From Hwy 525 Northbound, turn right onto Double Bluff Rd. and left into the 3rd Drive. Please park as directed.
